I've Got You For Three Minutes
The Spider-Man Trilogy is known for having a big pile of memes produced from the films. The trilogy has an entire subreddit of memes from this series and Sam Raimi films in general.
Please add entries in the following format:
- The meme. Explanation The explanation behind the meme.
- Further mutations and successor memes, if any.
Spider-Man
- This ◊ image of Peter in his first Spider-Man outfit has become involved in a meme where he is photoshopped in various recent events, typically tragic ones.
- Peter putting on his glasses has become a fairly popular meme typically used to express one's opinion on a certain subject.
- "Hey, freakshow! You're going nowhere! I've got you for three minutes! Three minutes of playtime!" Explanation The line Bonesaw first speaks to Peter when he gets locked in the ring. The hammy delivery from Randy Savage virtually guaranteed it traction.
- "You're on the wrong side of history, Spider-Man. ◊"
- "You know, I'm something of a scientist myself!" Explanation A line spoken by Willem Dafoe's Norman Osborn when first meeting Peter, it has been used in a variety of ways such as altering its surrounding context or omitting certain letters to alter the message. Often used facetiously to indicate the subject is a Know-Nothing Know-It-All, or just changed to an outright insult ("You know, I'm something of a moron myself!").
- "I wouldn't wanna fight me neither." explanation Flash Thompson challenges Peter to a fight. Usually the punchline to whenever someone expresses a lack of desire to do something...followed by Flash raising his fists and agreeing that he wouldn't either.
- "The ad said 3000." Explanation This became a meme after Avengers: Endgame came out, with the rise of "I love you 3000" meme. This is usually used as a response from Peter when someone tells him how much they love him.
- "I missed the part where that's my problem" Explanation A very quotable response said by Peter Parker in response to the wrestling promoter asking why he let the robber go, which proceeds to bite Peter in the ass as the robber killed Uncle Ben trying to escape. This line has became a very applicable comeback to pretty much everything.
- Peter Parker crying. explanation Peter cries after Uncle Ben passes away in his arms. The realistic but Narm-y expression Tobey Maguire pulls made this especially meme-worthy.
- Peter Parker smiling. explanation A smile photoshopped on Peter's crying face is often paired with the above mentioned crying photo. The crying face is for something bad that happened, followed by the smiling one for something good happening at the same time, for example: "when you realise the weekends are over, and then you remember you are on a vacation".
- I had to beat an old lady with a stick to get this. explanation Peter got some cranberry sauce from a store. The sauce can be replaced with another belonging.
- "OUT, AM I?" explanation Osborn's angry, incredulous reaction to being expelled from Oscorp, used for someone dealing badly with varied forms of rejection.
- "Oh, you can't do this to me!" explanation From the same scene, Norman's panicked initial response to his expulsion, used for someone who's just had the rug pulled out from under them.
- "DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I SACRIFICED!?" explanation Also same scene, Norman's sudden outburst of anger, used for someone protesting at misfortune after a (often comical) perceived sacrifice (e.g being unable to upvote something after going through the trouble of logging in)
- Green Goblin Booty Explanation A shot of Goblin chasing Spider-Man at the festival became viral due to it showing how form-fitting the Goblin suit was around Norman's ass.
- "I offered you friendship and you spat in my face!" explanation The Goblin pointing out how Spider-Man refused his We Can Rule Together pitch.
Spider-Man 2
- Whoa.....he stole that guy's PIZZA! Quickly became one of the site's most popular fads, with imaginative re-cuts of films and music videos with Donnell Rawlings, even including the two musical stings right after his line.
- J. Jonah Jameson's laughing face. Many knows him as the Aww Yea Guy.
- The scene it comes from as well, in which he laughs for almost ten seconds when Peter asks to be paid in advance, and then says "You serious?"
- His wheezing laugh also became a source for YTPMVs.
- And beforehand, "You're fired! ... Oh right, you're unfired, I need you, c'mere!"
- "Pizza time!", which has essentially become a Catchphrase for Spider-Man in the many Youtube Poop parodies of the films. It's often combined with the music from the pizza delivery missions in the game, which became a meme in its own right in 2016.
- Mr. Aziz yelling, "GOOOoooooooooo!!!" note However, in the 2.1 version of the film, he just says a simple "GO!".
- The many facial expressions of agony Peter makes while trying to stop the train, which are quite hilarious when viewed out of context.
- The particularly over-the-top scream that Peter does when he sees a wall falling towards MJ has been a popular source for remixes.
NYEEEAAA-AAAAAAAAAAA-AAAAUUHH!!!
- Mr. Ditkovich's "rent".
- Toy Biz's Spider-Man Triple Action Web Blaster also became a source for YTPs thanks to Deepercutt's Revenge of the Mad Madman.
- "Carefully, he's a hero".
- "That's pretty good. But it's taken!" explanation Jameson's response to Hoffman's suggestion of Doctor Strange as a name for the yet-unchristened Doctor Octopus. Adopted to agree that something is interesting and exciting but Name's the Same or already done.
- "The power of the sun in the palm of my hand." explanation Otto's awe at his artificial sun gets repurposed for comically exaggerated feelings of power over something (e.g having the chance of upvoting something at 999 likes).
- "My back. Ooh, my back!" explanation Peter's attempt to return to being Spider-Man while shouting "I'm back! I'm back!" ends with him falling down a building and smacking into a couple of cars, hurting himself. Is often used as an amusing injury in edit videos.
Spider-Man 3
- "It's so good."
- The scene where Peter removes his costume and sand pours out of it (and he spits out sand, after his first fight with the Sandman) is often referred to as a Tom Holland cameo. Explanation Holland's Spider-Man along with half the Marvel Cinematic Universe was turned to dust by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
- The Symbiote-possessed Peter (also known as Emo Peter or Bully Maguire) is a legitimate Fountain of Memes, creating some amazing moments and spouting some especially memorable lines:
- Emo Peter dancing down the street.
- "We don't really talk about this." Explanation The dance got a nod in Into the Spider-Verse, where Peter Parker is shown doing it in his Spider-Man costume, which he considers an Old Shame.
- Years later, Peter snapping his fingers during the dance scene led to quite a few jokes about "balancing the universe."
- "You'll get your rent when you fix this damn door!"
- "You're trash, Brock." explanation Emo Peter calls out Eddie Brock for his fraud. Eventually just became a bunch of Visual Puns where trash cans are labelled as Eddie.
- "You want forgiveness? Get religion."
- "I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye."
- "That all you got?"
- "Look at little Goblin Junior. Gonna cry?"
- "Now dig on this."
- "See ya, chump."
- Emo Peter dancing down the street.
- "How'd that get in there?"
- It's also commonly used to joke about how Sam Raimi will react to being questioned about why he's making Spider-Man 4 instead of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.
Across the trilogy
- J. Jonah Jameson constantly demanding "PICTURES! PICTURES OF SPIDER-MAN!".
- A mutation of this meme replaces J. Jonah Jameson with other roles involving J. K. Simmons, most notably Omni-Man.
- Peter's frequent strange or awkward facial expressions (often dubbed "Tobeyface") make for popular reaction image fodder.
- How did Raimi get away with it?/Can't believe Raimi got away with it- It was a different time. Explanation A meme from /tv/ playing up the Values Dissonance displayed in the wrestling match of the first film by joking that the movies are full of off-colour and extremely offensive instances of racial, sexual, or cultural bigotry, usually by making a reference to a scene in the movie that doesn't exist. In the trilogy proper, the most inappropriate remark Spidey makes is a mildly homophobic, but still mostly juvenile, quip that attacks Bonesaw's masculinity. The fact that such a remark would draw a lot more heat if it was made in a movie nowadays sparked the discussion that lead to this meme.
- Bully Maguire, thanks to Aldo Jones's Weird Trailers.
- In general, editing Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man into the MCU.
